Bradfords awarded FSC and PEFC Certification

Bradfords Building Supplies’ sustainability credentials have been formally recognised by the BM Trada Certification. Bradfords has been awarded the ‘Chain of Custody’ certificate; endorsed by Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) – indicating that its timber purchasing policy fully complies with international sustainability recommendations.
The FSC and the PEFC are international organisations that promote responsible stewardship of the world’s forests. Chain of Custody certification means that Bradfords has actively demonstrated a continued commitment to purchasing timber from a sustainable source – verified as so by all those involved in the timber production process.
Certification took about a year and a half. Bradfords carried out the initial preparatory work, before being audited by BM Trada – an independent timber authority.
David Laws, MP for Yeovil, presented the FSC/PEFC Timber Certificates to Dennis Smith, Bradfords Managing Director, at a ceremony on Friday 14th December, held at Bradfords head office in Yeovil, Somerset.
Dennis Smith was very pleased to receive the certificate and explained how it will benefit customers going forward.
“Chain of Custody standards demonstrate Bradfords commitment to corporate social responsibility, and to wider commercial concerns,” he said. “Local authority buildings are already specifying the use of sustainable timber in new construction, and it’s only a matter of time before this becomes more commonplace.”
Companies that have been independently verified for FSC and PEFC Chain of Custody certification are eligible to label their products with both logos.
