There is currently a shortage of aircrete blocks within the UK. The increase in demand combined with a lack of the pulverised fuel ash (PFA) that is used to manufacture them has left the building industry with a large deficit between supply and demand. Builders’ merchants are on allocation to ensure the blocks that are available are as evenly distributed as possible, but it does mean they can be incredibly difficult to get hold of.
Whilst aircrete blocks cannot be substituted by other products, there are some alternatives that can be considered. Insulated partial or full fill cavity walls can be used to achieve the required standards for extensions and refurbishments, as detailed below.
For any changes to original plans, we recommend consulting your architect as these will usually need to be redrawn to reflect any changes made.
Our insulation products are available here and our concrete blocks here. If you would like to contact your local branch to discuss the availability of any of our products, you can find telephone numbers for all of our branches here.
