Health and Safety Policy

Health & Safety is an essential part of our business structure. Ensuring our customers and employees safety is a imperative importance to Bradfords. Not only do we comply with The Health & Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, Bradfords also work closely with East Devon District Council and have set up a Lead Authority partnership scheme as well as a Moving Goods Safely project.

Lead Authority

Bradford & Sons Ltd and Bradfords Building Supplies Ltd formed a Lead Authority Partnership Scheme with East Devon District Council on May 13th 2005. The purpose of the scheme is to raise the standard of health and safety management within the business and encourage consistency of enforcement across all the Local Authority areas in which the business operates.

It enables the Lead Authority to work closely with the business to help develop and improve its health and safety arrangements. The lead authority then acts as a focal point of liaison on health and safety issues between other LA's, HSE and the business.

Moving Goods Safely

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) approached Bradfords Building Supplies and East Devon District Council in September 2006 as partners in a Lead Authority Partnership Scheme and asked if they would take part in a Moving Goods Safely Project.

The only Builders Merchant to get involved!

Moving Goods Safely was a national project by the HSE to reduce injuries and ill-health arising from the movement of goods from supplier through haulier to the recipient and end user including home deliveries. This includes the coordinated inspections of multi-site and peripatetic organisations, focusing on workplace transport; including falls from vehicles, musculoskeletal disorders and slip risks during the collection/delivery of goods.

The movement of goods is more than just trucks on the road with a large proportion of accidents happening at the delivery / collection sites that are more often not directly under the control of the delivery company. Communication and cooperation problems can arise due to the many organisations involved in the movement of the goods, and this can also lead to difficulties in effectively managing health and safety.
